As the education sector is attracting adequate attention in the age of structural adjustment and economic reform, Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and Master of education (M.Ed.) is increasingly becoming a preferred career course for many Indians. This has also helped in the growth of Teacher Education college in the SNGM campus. The M.Ed Course  is generally pursued after the successful completion of the B.Ed and post graduation courses under the University of Kerala.

 

The SNGM Teacher Education Institution  is recognized by National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE), New Delhi and affiliated to the University of Kerala. NCTE  is a Government body in charge of improving and implementing teacher education programmes in the country. It is essential to pursue the B.Ed and M.Ed. courses if you are interested in pursing a teaching career. These  are considered  an important courses as it helps the students to learn the education systems and patterns more profoundly and comparatively.

 

There is no upper age limit for admission to B.Ed and M.Ed course.

 

Admission Procedure B.Ed and M.Ed

Admission process is conducted as per the norms and regulations of the University of Kerala.
As per the special rules of Govt. of Kerala 50% seats are under merit in accordance with the reservation rules and the rest under management quota.

 

Course of Study and Eligibility Criterion for B.Ed

The minimum marks required  for B.Ed. degree admission in Kerala University is 50 % marks for  B.Sc, 45% for B.A.,  and 50% for M.Com.
There is a relaxation in minimum marks of 3% for O.B.C, 5% for O.E.C. For SC/ST students a pass is the minimum.

 

Course of Study and Eligibility Criterion for M.Ed

The minimum requirement of marks for admission to M.Ed course is 50 % ( both for B.Ed and M.A/M.Sc/M.Com)
 
There is a relaxation in minimum marks of 3% for   SEBC, 5% for O.E.C. Candidtes belonging to SC/ST communities with pass for Graduation and Post Graduation, in the respective optional subjects, are eligible for admission.

 

Application Forms

Application form and prospectus can be had from the college office on all working days on payment of Rs.100/- or by post against an M.O. for Rs.125/- in favour of the Manager, S.N.G.M. B.Ed. College, Valamangalam South P.O., Thuravoor, Cherthala - 688 532.

Interview

Candidates provisionally selected for admission  have to appear  for an interview before the Principal   accompanied by  Parent/Guardian on such dates and time as are individually notified or generally advertised. Candidates are to bring  all certificates and other documents in original along with attested copies and  four copies of Passport Size photographs at the time of the interview.

 

Transportation

Daily trips of college buses are available for the students and facul ties from Cherthala,Alappuzha, Ernakulam  and Kottayam  covering all the nearby towns


Hostel Facility

Accommodation is provided for both girls and boys separately in the college campus itself. Hostel fees: Rs 30,000/- per academic year for food and accommodation, payable in advance. This is for the academic year 2011-12 and is subject to revision every year.
